Sense and Sensibility stars launch Australian tour in Sydney – Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles have begun the Australian publicity tour for Sense and Sensibility with a photo call in Sydney.
The actors visited Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden on Wednesday, 30 September. Its harbour views and romantic setting provided the backdrop ahead of the film’s Australian premiere.
The Sydney stop brings the new Jane Austen adaptation directly to Australian audiences two weeks before its cinema release. It is also the final international stop before the campaign moves to the United States.
Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles in Sydney
Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles play sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. They arrived in Australia after publicity events in London, Ireland and Germany.
The pair will take part in further media appearances before the Australian premiere at Hoyts Entertainment Quarter. Sense and Sensibility opens nationally on Thursday, 15 October.
A new take on Jane Austen’s novel
The Focus Features and Working Title production follows the widowed Mrs Dashwood and her three unmarried daughters. Their lives change when the family estate, Norland Park, passes to the closest male relative.
Mrs Dashwood, Elinor, Marianne and Margaret must leave the estate and begin again at Barton Cottage. For Elinor, the move separates her from Edward Ferrars, the man for whom she has developed feelings.
Marianne’s life changes after she meets the charismatic John Willoughby. Their intense romance worries Elinor, who believes her sister is overlooking the devoted Colonel Brandon.
The story follows the sisters through relocation, romance and heartbreak. Their different approaches to love cause conflict, although their bond continues to hold the family together.
Elinor tries to control her emotions and protect those around her. Marianne is more open about what she feels, even when that makes her vulnerable. Their contrasting responses give the story its central tension.
At the same time, Mrs Dashwood and youngest daughter Margaret must adapt to their reduced circumstances. Barton Cottage becomes the setting for a new chapter as the family searches for security and happiness.
Cast and creative team
Alongside Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles, the cast includes Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, George MacKay and Fiona Shaw.
Georgia Oakley directs the film from a screenplay by Australian writer Diana Reid. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, India Flint and Jo Wallett are the producers.
The production presents Austen’s story as a sweeping but accessible drama about love, sisterhood and the limits placed on women by inheritance and social convention.
Sense and Sensibility opens in Australian cinemas on 15 October 2026.
