A-List cast announced for Fing on Stan – Stan today announced Academy Award® winner, Taika Waititi (Time Bandits, Our Flag means Death), Mia Wasikowska (Club Zero, Alice In Wonderland), David Walliams (Little Britain, Dinner for Schmucks), Richard Roxburgh (Stan Original Series Prosper, Elvis), Penelope Wilton (The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Downton Abbey) and Blake Harrison (World On Fire, I Hate Suzie Too) are set to star alongside Robyn Nevin (Sting and The End) and newcomer Iona Bell (Mandrake, Hush Now) in the screen adaptation of David Walliams bestselling children’s book, FING!.

The story follows librarians Mr. and Mrs. Meek, (Harrison and Wasikowska) who will do anything to keep their darling daughter, Myrtle (Bell), happy. But it’s not enough for Myrtle who always wants more, more, MORE! When Myrtle declares she wants a Fing, her parents have no choice but to track one down, taking them to the furthest and darkest corners of the jungle. Fing turns out to be as much as a destructive monster as Myrtle, who in turn, must battle it out with the evil animal park owner, The Viscount (Waititi), who is determined to own this rarest of creatures.

The Headmaster of Myrtle’s school (Walliams) is barely coping as he navigates her antics, whilst juggling the demands of a school in the modern age. Nanny (Wilton) is the opinionated and loyal servant of the Viscount, who she has raised since birth. Meanwhile, the Bank Manager (Roxburgh) has had to deal with the Viscount’s overspending for many years, and is running out of patience.

Taika Waititi as The Viscount

Renowned children’s author, David Walliams has sold over 60 million copies of his books in 55 languages. FING was released in 2019.

David Walliams said:

“FING! is such a fun and visual story with so many flights of fancy and I can’t wait to see it come to life on screen. To have Taika join the cast is absolutely thrilling as well. He’s a fantastic comedy performer, writer and director and I know he’ll have enormous fun playing the villainous role of the Viscount.”

Taika Waititi said:

“I was really thinking of my (now teenage) daughters when the role came to me. I can’t wait to unleash this absolutely mental Viscount character on audiences. It’s dark, it’s weird, it’s me!”

Producer Jo Sargent said:

“David and I have always known FING! had potential to be an incredibly cinematic story. Director Jeffrey Walker and co-producer Todd Fellman have shared our vision from day one and it’s been wonderful to work alongside their world class crew in Queensland as we create the creature and story we know and love.”

Producer Todd Fellman said:

“It’s exciting to have our international team of cast and crew in Brisbane to create what promises to be a wildly fun and entertaining story. Working with Screen Queensland once again continues to provide the  perfect platform to create a film of international scale and quality which will resonate with audiences of all ages across the globe.”

We were instantly captivated by FING!’s charm and originality. It’s a film with universal appeal and we are confident it will resonate with Australian audiences of all ages. We’re delighted to be part of the global release.”

Sky’s Head of Original Film, Andrew Orr, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to bring David Walliams’ FING! to the screen. With a bold, cinematic vision, cutting-edge visual effects and a top-tier international cast and creative team, FING! sets itself apart as the most ambitious screen adaptation of a David Walliams’ book to date. A visually spectacular adventure for the whole family, FING! exemplifies our dedication to delivering high-quality entertainment to Sky audiences.”

AGC Studios Chairman and CEO Stuart Ford said:

“The global phenomenon of David Walliams’ books are long overdue for a big screen adaptation and FING! is the perfect story to bring David’s wickedly sharp humor to family film audiences around the world.”

Queensland Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek said:

“David Walliams’ FING! is beloved by children around the world, and it’s incredible to see our Production Attraction Strategy supporting renowned Queensland creatives as they bring it to life on the big screen. This film will showcase the skills of our local screen practitioners to an international audience, while contributing about $16 million into the state’s economy and employing more than 300 Queenslanders during production.”

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said:

“Global partnerships via co-productions are an increasingly vital factor for film and series financing, and we are so pleased to be supporting King Bert Productions and Story Bridge Films to make FING! in Queensland.”

Transmission Films Managing Director Andrew Mackie said:

“Transmission is undeniably FRILLED to be bringing FING! to Australian and New Zealand cinema audiences in 2026. Bursting with David Walliams’ trademark wit and imagination, this film promises to be a hilarious and heartfelt school holiday blockbuster for all ages. We can’t wait for audiences to meet Fing on the big screen!”

The film is an official Australian UK co-production led by Jo Sargent from London-based King Bert Productions, and Todd Fellman from Queensland’s Story Bridge Films; with AGC Studios co-financing and handling worldwide sales and distribution. FING! will be released theatrically in Australia and New Zealand via Transmission, then exclusively on Stan, as a Stan Original Film.
