What’s streaming on SBS On Demand in August 2026 – SBS On Demand’s August slate is led by Shaun Micallef’s Origin Odyssey season two, The Vampire Lestat, After Us, Matt Preston’s Plating Locally, La Vuelta A Espana 2026 and a substantial SBS World Movies lineup.
The free streaming service will add Australian originals, European drama, food programming, live sport, returning box sets and curated film collections across the month.
For Australian viewers, August is a strong reminder of SBS On Demand’s point of difference. The platform continues to lean into free local originals, international drama and world cinema, while also giving audiences a catch-up destination for SBS and SBS World Movies programming.

Australian originals and exclusives
Shaun Micallef’s Origin Odyssey returns for season two on Tuesday, 18 August. Across six episodes, Micallef travels with well-known Australians as they explore family heritage and ancestral connections. The new season features Pia Miranda, Denise Scott, Matt Okine, Luke McGregor, Kate Langbroek and Tony Armstrong.
Matt Preston’s Plating Locally launches on Wednesday, 12 August. The eight-part SBS Original follows Preston through Australian and New Zealand food regions, including Margaret River, the Barossa, Kangaroo Island, Tasmania’s Tamar Valley and Marlborough.
The Airport Chaplain is also part of the August slate. The new SBS Original drama stars Hugo Weaving and Shabana Azeez, with Claudia Karvan and Thomas Weatherall. SBS will confirm premiere timing closer to launch.
International drama and box sets
After Us arrives Sunday, 9 August as an Australian premiere box set. The French environmental thriller follows a group that kidnaps the children of powerful executives in a bid to force stronger climate commitments.
Minx seasons one and two arrive on Thursday, 13 August. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the series follows an earnest feminist and a publisher as they create the first erotic magazine for women.
Nora Sand: The Pushover lands Thursday, 20 August. The Danish drama continues the story of journalist Nora Sand after Nora Sand: Fatal Crossing.
The Vampire Lestat streams from Friday, 21 August. Sam Reid returns as Lestat, now touring with his band and haunted by figures from his past. Interview with a Vampire seasons one and two will also be available from the same date.
Sport, food and collections
La Vuelta A Espana 2026 will stream live and on demand from Sunday, 22 August to Sunday, 13 September. The Grand Tour begins in Monaco and runs across 21 stages.
SBS On Demand will also mark Wear It Purple Day on Friday, 28 August with a collection that includes Homebodies, What It Feels Like For A Girl and films such as Dicks: The Musical, Love Lies Bleeding and We Were Dangerous.
