Families Like Ours
Australian Premiere Box Set Drop
Friday 20 June 2025 on SBS On Demand (Eight episodes)
Families Like Ours is the first television series from Thomas Vinterberg, director of the Academy Award-winning film Another Round. The drama considers what might happen if an entire country had to be evacuated, scattering the population across the globe and turning Vinterberg’s home nation of Denmark into just a memory.
Set in a not-too-distant future, the rising water levels can no longer be ignored and Denmark needs to be evacuated. As people disperse in all directions, they must bid farewell to what they love, what they know, and who they are. Slowly but steadily, everything changes. All property becomes worthless, all fortunes shift, and luck favours only a few. Those who can afford it travel to affluent countries while the less well-off depend on government-funded relocation to more challenging destinations.
Families, friends, and loved ones are separated. Some will be overcome by hatred and division, while others will nurture love and foster new beginnings.
Against this backdrop we meet Laura (Amaryllis August), a high school student in love for the first time and on the cusp of graduation. When news of the evacuation breaks, the course of Laura and her family’s lives are changed forever, and Laura is forced into the impossible dilemma of choosing between the three people she loves the most – her divorced parents Fanny (Paprika Steen) and Jacob (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) and her boyfriend Elias (Albert Rudbeck Lindhardt).
Vinterberg directs the series which he wrote with Bo Hr. Hansen.
Families Like Ours will be available to stream free on SBS On Demand in Danish with English subtitles.
Thomas Vinterberg’s dark comedy Another Round is already available to stream free on SBS On Demand.
Starring Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Lars Ranthe, Magnus Millang and Maria Bonnevie, it won the Oscar for Best International Feature Film in 2021.

Hunt For Truth: Tasmanian Tiger Verdict
Australian Premiere
Thursday 26 June 2025 on SBS On Demand
The hit SBS documentary series Hunt for Truth: Tasmanian Tiger returns for a final, gripping instalment Hunt for Truth: Tasmanian Tiger Verdict – chasing fresh clues, investigating compelling new evidence, and delivering a long-awaited verdict on one of the world’s greatest wildlife mysteries.
Tim Noonan, two-time Walkley Award-winning journalist and the creator behind Boy to Man and Extreme Engagement, leads viewers on a wild and emotional journey into the mystery of the thylacine, the legendary Tasmanian tiger. Since Season 1 (two episodes) premiered in June 2024, Tim has received a flood of viewer emails — fresh sightings, whistleblower accounts, and sensitive documents. One such tip led him to a trove of official records never before made public. Inside were explosive responses from wildlife rangers, revealing what authorities may have believed — and have kept hidden — for decades.
The last known thylacine officially died in captivity in 1936. Yet, scores of credible eyewitnesses claim sightings that suggest the species may still be alive.
At the public’s request, Noonan ventures deep into the Tasmanian wilderness, armed with new leads, to solve the mystery of the elusive tiger once and for all. Also, returning in this episode is the legendary thylacine hunter “Tigerman” who has spent close to a million dollars searching for the creature. He invites Tim to a remote cave peppered with suspicious tracks.
In the end, Tim weighs all the evidence — the science, the sightings, the secrets — and delivers an honest, personal verdict: does he believe the thylacine still exists? And if the Tasmanian tiger is still out there, would we ever forgive ourselves for letting it go extinct… a second time?
Hunt For Truth: Tasmanian Tiger Verdict will be available to stream free on SBS On Demand from Thursday 26 June and will also premiere on SBS on the same date at 7.30pm.
Hunt For Truth: Tasmanian Tiger (two episodes) is already available to stream free on SBS On Demand.
