Criminal with Charlie Hunnam sets January Prime Video release — Charlie Hunnam is returning to television crime drama in Criminal, an eight-episode Prime Video series that now has a teaser and two announced January release dates.
Prime Video has set the four-episode first part, Coward, for 13 January 2027 and the four-episode second part, Lawless, for 27 January. The service is available in Australia, making the series directly relevant to local viewers, although an Australian catalogue listing and local release time have not yet been independently confirmed.
For viewers who know Hunnam as Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy, this is another lead role set inside a criminal world. He more recently played Ed Gein in Netflix’s Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
What is Criminal about?
The series adapts the acclaimed crime comics created by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. Rather than presenting a single isolated case, its two parts explore connected characters and different corners of the same criminal world.
Hunnam plays Leo Patterson, while Gus Halper plays Ricky Lawless. The two men grew up around crime but have taken different paths. The return of Ricky’s brother Tracy, played by Luke Evans, brings family history back into the story.
Adria Arjona and Emilia Clarke are also in the cast. Ed Brubaker and Jordan Harper developed the television adaptation, giving the long-running comics a new screen life.
When can Australians watch?
The announced Prime Video dates are 13 and 27 January 2027, with four episodes arriving in each instalment. Australian subscribers should check the local Prime Video listing nearer launch for the exact availability and release time.
The newly released teaser offers the first substantial look at Hunnam’s Leo and the series’ darker tone.
