Netflix announces new scripted series Queenstown – Netflix has announced Queenstown, a new scripted eight-part series now in production in Queenstown, New Zealand.
The series comes from Silent Firework and Runaway Unicorn. It is also the first ANZ-commissioned Netflix series to be set and shot in New Zealand.
A luxury ski town drama
The logline places the story beneath the glamour of Queenstown’s luxury ski scene. A privileged family and the people who work for them collide over power, loyalty and desire.
The cast includes Rufus Sewell, Frances O’Connor, Alycia Debnam-Carey and Te Kohe Tuhaka.
Chloe Stearns is creator, writer and executive producer. Glendyn Ivin is lead director and executive producer, with Roseanne Liang also directing.
Netflix backs local production
Netflix ANZ Content Director Amanda Duthie said Queenstown brings together an exceptional team of talent and creatives in a breathtaking environment.
Duthie described the local commission as a huge moment for Netflix. She said the series is a bold story about power, class and family, set against the opulent world of a luxury ski town.
Executive producers Jodi Matterson and Libbie Doherty said Queenstown delivers on their vision to champion bold and distinctive storytelling.
Queenstown will be released globally on Netflix. It joins Netflix’s growing local and locally made slate, including The Survivors, Apple Cider Vinegar, Territory, Boy Swallows Universe and Heartbreak High.
