Best of the Best brings Bollywood dance drama to Netflix – Netflix will premiere Best of the Best on 18 September, following childhood best friends Maya and Anjali as they enter UCLA’s fiercely competitive Bollywood dance team.

The pair are aiming for the U.S. Championship, but the path is not straightforward. As rehearsal pressure builds, Maya and Anjali must balance friendship, ambition and the complicated realities of growing up.

Described as “Step Up, but make it Bollywood”, the film combines high-stakes performance drama with comedy and a coming-of-age story. Its focus on a competitive Bollywood dance scene also gives the new Netflix release a setting that will be new to many Australian viewers.

Best of the Best uses the championship campaign to test the friendship at its centre. The film puts dance, culture and personal ambition in the same arena as the team works towards its biggest competition.

The release arrives as Netflix continues to add Indian and South Asian storytelling to its international slate, with titles designed to travel across audiences while retaining a distinct cultural perspective.
