Rivals on Disney+ renewed for third season ahead of season two return – Disney+ has officially renewed its hit drama Rivals for a third season, with the announcement arriving ahead of the second half of season two premiering this November.

Based on Dame Jilly Cooper’s beloved Rutshire Chronicles novels, Rivals has become one of Disney+’s biggest international drama successes, combining scandal, romance, ambition and betrayal in a world where power and influence are everything.

The renewal follows a strong response to season two, which Disney says became the biggest-ever EMEA original premiere on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland. The first six episodes of the second season debuted in May, with the remaining six episodes scheduled to arrive in November.

According to Disney+, season three will raise the stakes even further as new romances emerge, old relationships are reignited and long-buried secrets threaten to unravel the lives of Rutshire’s most influential residents.

Lee Mason, Vice-President of Scripted Content for Disney+ EMEA, said:

“The phenomenal response to Rivals is a credit to the bold, irreverent and endlessly entertaining world created by Dame Jilly Cooper, our cast, creative team and production partners at Happy Prince.

“We’re delighted to be bringing audiences a third season on Disney+/Hulu. Expect more ambition, more romance, more rivalries and, of course, more scandal as we return to Rutshire for another irresistible chapter.”

Happy Prince executives Dominic Treadwell-Collins and Alexander Lamb also welcomed the renewal, paying tribute to the late Dame Jilly Cooper and the enduring popularity of her stories.

“We’ve been delighted and overwhelmed by the audience’s response to season two of Rivals.

“Our one sadness is that Jilly didn’t get to witness the love for season two. But she’s still very much with us in spirit and would be so delighted that season three has been green lit.”

The series is produced by Happy Prince, part of ITV Studios, and is executive produced by Dominic Treadwell-Collins, Alexander Lamb, Laura Wade and Felicity Blunt.

All episodes of season one and the first six episodes of season two are available to stream now on Disney+, with the second half of season two arriving in November.
