Shakespeare and Hathaway season 5 is now streaming on BritBox – Mark Benton and Jo Joyner return for a new season of the cosy crime favourite Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators.
Season five is new and exclusive to BritBox from Wednesday, 22 July 2026.
The return gives BritBox viewers another easy winter comfort watch, with 10 new 45-minute episodes built around witty mysteries, familiar faces and the picturesque streets of Stratford-upon-Avon.

What is season 5 about?
The series follows an oddball pair of private detectives as they investigate crime in Shakespeare’s birthplace.
After going their separate ways, grumpy former detective Frank Hathaway and warm-hearted former hairdresser Lu Shakespeare are drawn back together when a new case reignites their unlikely partnership.
With their witty assistant alongside them, the team tackles new baffling crimes and eccentric suspects.
BritBox says the new season moves through a broad mix of cases, including social media influencers, a superhero vigilante, a horror film director and football sabotage.
Who stars in the new season?
Mark Benton returns as Frank Hathaway, while Jo Joyner is back as Lu Shakespeare.
The cast also includes Patrick Walshe McBride and Tomos Eames.
