Wentworth: Halfway Home begins production for BINGE – BINGE has announced production on Wentworth: Halfway Home, a new Australian original drama set beyond the prison walls of Wentworth.
Filming begins in Melbourne on Monday, 27 July. The series follows former inmates as they try to rebuild their lives on the outside.
For BINGE, this is a major local drama play. It brings back one of Australia’s best-known television brands, while giving the story a new setting and a fresh point of view.
Returning favourites
Katrina Milosevic returns as Susan ‘Boomer’ Jenkins. Nicole da Silva returns as Franky Doyle, while Kate Box returns as Lou Kelly.
Alex King also joins the cast. She recently appeared in War Machine. Chenile Chandler joins in her first major television role.
More cast members will be announced later.
The story centres on Boomer after she arrives at Sal’s Halfway House. She has been freshly paroled and wants custody of her daughter.
Then a body turns up. Boomer must decide who she can trust in a house full of ex-cons.
Beyond the prison walls
Carly Heaton, Head of Scripted at Fremantle and executive producer, said the new series explores life on the outside.
She said the stakes are higher outside prison. The risk of losing everything is also always present.
Foxtel Group Executive Director, Entertainment Content, Daniel Monaghan said Wentworth: Halfway Home lets BINGE revisit characters viewers still care about.
He said the series also tells a fresh story that can stand on its own.
A Victorian screen legacy
Screen Australia and VicScreen are backing the production.
VicScreen CEO Caroline Pitcher said Wentworth remains one of Victoria’s greatest screen success stories. Its roots stretch back to Prisoner in 1979.
Wentworth premiered on FOXTEL in 2013. It ran for eight seasons and screened in more than 170 territories.
Late 2026 premiere
Wentworth: Halfway Home will premiere exclusively on BINGE in late 2026.
Fremantle Australia produces the series for BINGE. It has major production investment from Foxtel and Screen Australia, with financing in association with VicScreen.
Foxtel will handle local distribution. Fremantle will handle international sales.
