A defining moment in Australian television
The series premiered on Foxtel in 2013 and has been a defining moment in Australian television. A Fremantle production that reimagined the landmark series Prisoner, it has screened in over 170 territories worldwide across nine seasons.
Along the way, it built a fiercely loyal fan base and turned its cast into household names. Season 1 ranks as the #4 Australian drama in Foxtel history, while seasons 7, 8 and 9 each ranked as Foxtel’s #1 Australian drama in their first run.
With a new chapter on the way, fans can revisit Bea, Franky, Boomer and the women of Wentworth Correctional Centre from the beginning. Alternatively, new viewers can discover the series for the first time.
The BINGE numbers
Despite no new season since August 2021, the BINGE numbers show the strength of the series:
- It is the #2 most-watched series on BINGE in 2026 so far
- Viewers coming to BINGE for the series are up 55 per cent year on year
- Sign-ups spiked in February after the new series was first announced, and surged again in July after the cast announcements
- September was its biggest sign-up month since early 2022, and its strongest viewing month since 2022
- Since launching on BINGE on 27 October 2021, it has become BINGE’s top Australian series of all time by hours
What is Wentworth: Halfway Home about?
Production on the new series is currently underway in Melbourne. Freshly paroled, Boomer arrives at Sal’s Halfway House determined to get custody of her daughter and build a life for them both.
But when a body turns up, who can she trust in a home full of ex-cons? Getting out of prison was hard, but staying out may prove impossible.
