High Country: What Lies Beneath returns to BINGE in September – BINGE has confirmed its acclaimed Australian crime drama High Country will return for season two. High Country: What Lies Beneath premieres on Sunday 14 September.
The eight-episode new chapter will roll out weekly on BINGE. Leah Purcell AM returns as Andie. Brendan Cowell, Ryan Corr and Nadine Garner join the cast, while Ian McElhinney, Sara Wiseman and Aaron Pedersen also return.
For BINGE, the return matters. The first season became one of the platform’s strongest local dramas. It also found audiences overseas, which shows the value of distinctive Australian stories for streaming viewers.
The New Season
Season two follows Andie as a dangerous and deeply personal case pulls her back in. The case tests loyalties, unsettles the local community and challenges what she knows about herself.
The production filmed in the Victorian Alps, including Jamieson, Mansfield and Eildon, as well as greater Melbourne. As a result, Victoria’s alpine landscape again shapes the mood of the mystery.
Purcell said she was thrilled to return for the much-anticipated new chapter. She also promised fresh storylines, new talent and answers to questions left by the first season.
BINGE executive director of content and channels Daniel Monaghan said the first season proved the local and global appeal of bold Australian storytelling. He said the new season builds on that momentum and pushes the mystery further.
Curio Pictures’ Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner described the second season as a thrilling new journey. They said Purcell leads a strong cast and creative team through more twists, tension and character-driven drama.
