Apple TV unveils trailer for comedy film The Dink starring Jake Johnson, Ed Harris and Aaron Chen – Apple TV has released the official trailer and first-look images for its upcoming original comedy film The Dink, starring Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris and Australian comedian Aaron Chen.
The all-star comedy will premiere globally on Apple TV on Friday, 24 July.
Produced by Ben Stiller and directed by Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar filmmaker Josh Greenbaum, The Dink is an underdog comedy centred on the rapidly growing sport of pickleball.
A former tennis prodigy gets a second chance
Jake Johnson stars as Dusty Boyd, a washed-up former tennis prodigy who now spends his days coaching unruly children at his father Chuck’s suburban country club.
Chuck, played by Academy Award nominee Ed Harris, is determined to rid the club of its latest obsession: pickleball.
However, when Dusty re-aggravates an old injury and can no longer play tennis, he reluctantly turns to pickleball as part of his rehabilitation. What begins as a desperate measure soon becomes something more, particularly after he meets his new doubles partner, Candace, played by Mary Steenburgen.
As Dusty finds himself unexpectedly embracing the sport, he is forced to confront his past failures, his strained relationship with his father and his long-standing rivalry with childhood nemesis Andy Roddick, who appears as himself in the film.

Another big original film for Apple TV
The Dink joins Apple TV’s growing slate of original films and series. Since launching in 2019, the streaming service has quickly become one of the industry’s most awarded platforms, with acclaimed titles including Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio and Academy Award-winning film CODA.
With its quirky premise, sporting rivalry and all-star ensemble cast, The Dink looks set to deliver plenty of laughs when it premieres exclusively on Apple TV next month.
