Forgotten Island: DreamWorks unveils magical new animated adventure arriving in cinemas this September – DreamWorks Animation has released a brand-new trailer and poster for its upcoming original animated feature Forgotten Island, set to arrive exclusively in Australian cinemas on 17 September.

From the acclaimed creative team behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Forgotten Island promises a dazzling, emotional and action-packed story centred on friendship, family and Filipino mythology.

The film is written and directed by Academy Award nominee Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado and produced by Academy Award nominee Mark Swift.

At the heart of the story are lifelong best friends Jo and Raissa, voiced by Grammy and Academy Award winner H.E.R. and actress Liza Soberano. The pair have been inseparable since childhood but are preparing to head down different paths after graduating high school.

During one final night together, Jo and Raissa discover a mysterious portal that transports them to Nakali, a fantastical island filled with magical and mythological creatures they grew up hearing about through stories from their Filipino families.

As they navigate this mysterious world, they are joined by Raww, a well-meaning but clumsy weredog voiced by Dave Franco, and an unlikely group of companions. However, danger looms in the form of The Dreaded Manananggal, voiced by Tony Award-winning icon Lea Salonga.

The stakes become even higher when Jo and Raissa discover that the cost of returning home may be the memories of their entire friendship. Faced with losing one another forever, the pair must race against time to find a way off the island before their bond disappears completely.

The all-star voice cast also includes Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy and Ronny Chieng.

With stunning visuals, a heartfelt story and a celebration of Filipino culture and mythology, Forgotten Island is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated family films.

Forgotten Island opens exclusively in Australian cinemas on 17 September.
