Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s comedy Brothers lands on Apple TV in September – Apple TV has unveiled the premiere date and first details for its new comedy series Brothers, starring Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey and Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson as fictionalised versions of themselves.
The eight-episode comedy will debut on Wednesday, 23 September, with the first two episodes available at launch. New episodes will then roll out weekly through to 4 November.
Produced by Paramount Television Studios, Brothers explores what happens when one of Hollywood’s most famous friendships is thrown into complete chaos by a family secret decades in the making.
The series follows McConaughey and Harrelson playing heightened versions of themselves after a wedding disaster sends Woody and his family to Matthew’s Texas ranch for an extended stay.
What begins as a chance to reconnect soon spirals into something much bigger when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac, accidentally reveals a long-buried secret: the pair may actually be brothers.
As Woody becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth, Matthew finds himself dealing with a crisis of his own as he considers a potential run for Governor of Texas.
According to Apple TV, the comedy blends friendship, family, fame and identity into a heartfelt and chaotic story that blurs the line between reality and fiction.
Joining McConaughey and Harrelson is an ensemble cast featuring Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, Oona Yaffe and acclaimed actress Holland Taylor as Ma Mac.
The series is led by multi-Emmy Award nominee and Peabody Award winner Lee Eisenberg, who serves as showrunner and executive producer.
McConaughey and Harrelson also executive produce alongside Natalie Sandy, David West Read, Trish Hofmann, Bill Bost, Jason Winer, David Finkel, Brett Baer and Jeremy Plager. Trent O’Donnell directs multiple episodes, including the pilot.
The announcement marks the latest high-profile comedy project for Apple TV, which continues to expand its slate of original series featuring major Hollywood talent.
Brothers premieres Wednesday, 23 September on Apple TV.
