Minions unleash chaos in first extended look at Illumination’s new animated adventure Minions & Monsters – Universal Pictures has released an extended look at Minions & Monsters, the latest big-screen adventure from Illumination, ahead of its Australian cinema release on 25 June.
Following the massive global success of Despicable Me 4, which became one of 2024’s biggest animated hits, Illumination is expanding its beloved universe with an all-new story that puts the spotlight firmly back on the mischievous Minions.
Minions & Monsters tells the outrageous and supposedly “totally true” story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, accidentally unleashed monsters onto the world and then found themselves responsible for saving the planet from the chaos they created.
The new film introduces a host of original characters while retaining the trademark humour, mayhem and heart that have made the franchise one of the most successful animated properties of all time.
Academy Award nominee Pierre Coffin returns to direct the film after helming the first three Despicable Me movies and the original Minions feature. Coffin also once again provides the iconic voice of the Minions.
The screenplay is written by Brian Lynch and Pierre Coffin, with Lynch previously writing Minions and The Secret Life of Pets films. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri produces alongside Bill Ryan, with Lynch serving as executive producer.
Since first appearing on screen in 2010, the Minions have become a global pop culture phenomenon. Together, the Despicable Me and Minions films have generated more than $5.6 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the biggest animated franchise in cinema history.
With monsters, movie stardom and world-ending mayhem all on the agenda, Minions & Monsters looks set to deliver another crowd-pleasing adventure for audiences of all ages.
Minions & Monsters opens exclusively in Australian cinemas on 25 June.
