For Australian viewers, the October slate covers several distinct moods. Crime drama anchors the first half of the month. However, the schedule also adds food, social investigation and true-crime documentary programming. That mix makes the guide useful beyond any single premiere.
Beyond Paradise Season 3 – 3 October
The hit Death in Paradise spin-off returns for a third season. DI Humphrey Goodman and his fiancée Martha continue building their life on the Devon coast, but the demands around them keep growing.
The series keeps the light mystery tone that established Humphrey as a fan favourite. At the same time, the coastal setting gives the spin-off its own identity away from Saint Marie. Season 3 arrives on ABC iview on Saturday 3 October.
Lynley – 10 October
Lynley offers a fresh adaptation of Elizabeth George’s murder mysteries. Tommy Lynley is a brilliant detective, but his aristocratic upbringing makes him an outsider within the police force.
He is paired with Barbara Havers, a sergeant from a working-class background who has a maverick approach to the job. The two detectives appear to have little in common. Nevertheless, their shared drive to see justice done turns them into a formidable team.
The contrast between Lynley and Havers is central to the new series. Their different experiences shape how they read suspects, institutions and each other. Lynley arrives on ABC iview on Saturday 10 October.
Recipe of the Year – 11 October
Set on a picturesque country farm, Recipe of the Year brings 20 of Australia’s best home cooks together for a seven-part series. The focus is not restaurant technique. Instead, the competition celebrates the food Australians make in their own kitchens.
The recipes range from family dishes shaped by culture and passed down through generations to clever weeknight meals. Each dish also carries a personal story. That gives the competition a wider purpose than simply deciding which plate tastes best.
Recipe of the Year premieres on ABC iview on Sunday 11 October.
Dustfall – 10 October
Anna Torv leads Dustfall, an atmospheric Australian crime drama based on Vikki Petraitis’s novel The Unbelieved. ABC describes the series as a “Tropic Noir” story.
Torv plays Detective Tig Pollard. Tig investigates a harrowing sexual assault case, but the inquiry grows darker after a key suspect is found dead. Her search for the truth also forces her to confront secrets buried since her adolescence.
The series combines a present-day police investigation with the weight of its lead character’s past. Dustfall arrives on ABC iview on 10 October.
The State of Man – 13 October
Award-winning journalist Marc Fennell examines masculinity in Australia in The State of Man. The series enters the online world of the manosphere and considers why its ideas are reaching a new generation.
Fennell also looks at the machinery making money from men’s search for identity and belonging. The investigation asks who is shaping the conversation, what audiences are being sold and how those messages move from online spaces into everyday life.
The State of Man premieres on ABC iview on Tuesday 13 October.
Believe in Magic: The Mother of All Cons – 13 October
Believe in Magic: The Mother of All Cons begins with a teenage girl’s charity for sick children. The organisation brings fairytales to life and attracts celebrity support, including backing connected to One Direction.
The public story begins to unravel when a group of parents starts asking questions. Their investigation exposes a darker truth behind the charity and the image that won widespread support.
The documentary arrives on ABC iview on Tuesday 13 October, the same day as The State of Man.
