Paying tribute to the sacrifices made by NHS staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, Breathtaking is a moving three-part British drama starring Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey), premiering Wednesday, 12 February on 7plus.
Froggatt stars as Abbey Henderson, a highly efficient, competent and passionate doctor who guides her ward with nurtured experience. But as the COVID-19 pandemic arrives at the hospital, they realise they are ill-equipped to preserve life and must make quick, difficult decisions.
Running out of tests, PPE, and patients overwhelming the ward, the healthcare staff struggle to cope with constantly changing government guidelines.
When healthcare assistant Divina (Georgia Goodman) catches COVID-19 under Abbey’s watch, the stakes are made very real.
In the middle of the chaos, the team still manage to find moments of joy through adversity in the ward. As the winter months arrive, staff are armed with greater knowledge of the virus, but it cannot help against the impact of a new wave of patients.
Abbey and her colleagues must continue pushing through the storm of an overwhelming pandemic that strains every facet of the healthcare staff and challenges the processes set by an unprepared government.
