AUSSIES IN ACTION
Swimming
- With four World Championships, two Olympic Gold medals and a World Record to her name as a relay swimmer, Meg Harris broke through for the biggest individual result of her career to win the 50m Freestyle Silver medal. Shayna Jack finished eighth in the Final.
- Kaylee McKeown, Emma McKeon and Mollie O’Callaghan added to their impressive Olympic medal tallies with a Silver medal in the Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay, while Jenna Strauch scored her first Olympic medal. Harris will also pick up a Silver medal having swum in yesterday’s heats.
Athletics
- Nicola Olyslagers won High Jump Silver for the second straight Games while Eleanor Patterson ensured Australia scored two spots on the podium for the second time in Paris with a share of third to claim the Bronze medal.
- Reece Holder set a personal best time en route to the Men’s 400m Semi-Finals after finishing third in his heat.
- Claudia Hollingsworth and Abbey Caldwell both performed strongly but were unable to progress past the Semi-Finals of the Women’s 800m.
Boxing
- Caitlin Parker will become Australia’s first female Boxing medal-winner at the Olympics after accounting for Heavyweight World Champion Khadija Mardi (MAR) in a split-decision in the Women’s 75kg Quarter-Finals. Regardless of her Semi-Final result, Parker is assured of at least a Bronze Medal.
Sailing
- Despite a pair of 10th place finishes today, Matt Wearn remains on top of the Men’s Dinghy standings after eight races. Two races in the Opening Series remain on Monday before the top 10 contest the Medal Race on Tuesday.
Beach Volleyball
- In a battle of the last two Olympic Silver medallists, Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy have moved into the Quarter-Finals after a straight sets win over the Brazilian fifth seeds. They next play the Swiss pair Esmée / Zoé in the Quarter-Finals, with the Aussies holding a 5-1 winning record in their six career clashes.
Water Polo
- With the scores locked at 9-all at full-time, the Stingers were able to overcome Tokyo Bronze medallists Hungary in the shoot-out to remain undefeated and finish on top of Group A.
Canoe Slalom
- Noemie Fox went head-to-head with sister Jess in the Women’s Kayak Cross Heats, with Noemie claiming victory and Jess eliminated after finishing third.
- Tim Anderson and Tristan Carter have also both made it through to the Men’s Quarter-Finals.
- The Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Finals take place tonight.
Hockey
- The Kookaburras have bowed out in the Quarter-Finals, going down to the Netherlands 2-0 in what was the third-straight meeting between the two teams at the same stage of the tournament.
Basketball
- The Opals have defeated host nation France 79-72 in a must-win match to finish second in their pool and qualify for the Quarter-Finals.
INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Athletics
- Noah Lyles (USA) lived up to his own hype to claim the Men’s 100m by just 0.005s ahead of Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson with World Champion Fred Kerley (USA) taking the Bronze. It took a personal best for Lyles to claim victory in a Final where just 0.12 separated all eight runners.
- World Record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh (UKR) won the Women’s High Jump ahead of Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers. Ukraine and Australia also shared third spot on the medal dais with Eleanor Patterson and Iryna Geraschenko tying for Bronze.
- Canada’s Ethan Katzberg has won the Men’s Hammer Throw by more than four metres, throwing more than three metres further than the distance he achieved to claim last year’s World Championship in Budapest.
Swimming
- USA scored two World Records in the final session of Swimming with Bobby Finke setting a new mark in the Men’s 1500m Freestyle before the Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay bettered the time set by Australia more than five years ago.
- Sarah Sjöström (SWE) has taken out the Freestyle sprint double after claiming 50m Gold ahead of Australia’s Meg Harris.
Tennis
- Novak Djokovic (SRB) has added the one title which has eluded him throughout his career, defeating Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) in two tiebreak sets to take the Men’s Singles Gold Medal.
- Sara Errani (2012) and Jasmine Paolini (2024) have both made French Open Singles Finals at Roland Garros over more than a decade apart, but today their two eras combined to win Gold for Italy in the Women’s Doubles.
Golf
- World #1 Scott Scheffler (USA) shot a final round nine-under 62 to win Gold by one stroke ahead of Team GB’s Tommy Fleetwood with Hideki Matsuyama (JPN) taking the Bronze.
Cycling
- Making a break in the final stages which the chasers didn’t follow saw Kristen Faulkner (USA) take victory in the Women’s Road Race with Marianne Vos (NED) and Lotte Kopecky (BEL) triumphing in a four-way battle for the final two medals.
Gymnastics
- A day after Ireland and Philippines won their first Olympic Gold Medals in Gymnastics, Kaylia Nemour achieved the same honour for Algeria in taking out the Women’s Uneven Bars.
- Carlos Yulo (PHI) created history for the second day in a row, backing up his Gold on the Floor to win the Men’s Vault.
- Liu Yang and Zou Jingyuan claimed a Chinese one-two in the Men’s Rings Final.
Women’s Basketball
- Team USA defeated Germany 87-68 to finish on top of Group C and hold the top ranking moving into the Quarter-Finals.
