Matthew Richardson powered to Silver in the Men’s Keirin, edged out by Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen who won his third Gold of the Games. Matthew Glaetzer earned his own ‘Bradbury’ moment, watching three athletes crash in front of him on the final corner to go from last to Bronze.
Georgia Baker was in medal contention throughout the Women’s Omnium, but had to settle for fifth after failing to add to her score in the points race.

Basketball

The Opals held off a determined Belgian outfit 85-81 in the clash for Bronze to win their first Olympic medal since London 2012. Ezi Magbegor led from the front with 30 points and 13 rebounds.

Athletics

Jess Stenson finished 13th and Genevieve Gregson 24th on a demanding but picturesque course in the Women’s Marathon.

Sifan Hassan (NED) won the closest Women’s Marathon in Olympic history, outlasting Tigst Assefa (ETH) in a last kilometre dash to add Gold to her Bronze medals in the 5000m and 10,000m.

Basketball

France almost sent the Women’s Gold medal match into overtime, however Gabby Williams had her toe on the line when she nailed a buzzer-beater at the end of the final quarter to fall just short, USA winning 67-66 for their tenth Olympic Gold medal in the event, and their eighth in a row.

Cycling

Ellesse Andrews (NZL) won her second Gold in the velodrome, defeating world champion Emma Finucane (GBR) in the Semi-Finals before taking down Lea Friedrich (GER) to win the Women’s Sprint.
- The result saw New Zealand move into 11th on the Paris Medal Tally with a record 10 Gold medals.
Jennifer Valente (USA) led from start to finish in the Women’s Omnium, defending her Tokyo Gold ahead of Daria Pikulik (POL) and Ally Wollaston (NZL).
Harrie Lavreysen (NED) upgraded from his Tokyo Bronze by taking out the Men’s Keirin, his third Gold medal in Paris and fifth overall.
- The result moved Netherlands ahead of Great Britain on the Medal Tally with 15 Gold medals.

Water Polo

After scoring just three goals against Australia in the preliminary round, Serbia stormed back to form as the Games went on and claimed its third-straight Men’s Water Polo Gold, beating Croatia 13-11 in the decider.
USA beat Hungary in a shoot-out to take the Bronze.

Volleyball

Italy won its first-ever Olympic title in Volleyball, beating USA 3-0 in the Women’s Gold Medal match.

Handball

After settling for Silver in Tokyo, Denmark convincingly defeated Germany 39-26 to step up to Gold in the Men’s Gold Medal match.
Spain took its second Bronze medal in a row, outlasting Slovenia 23-22.
