The Agenda Setters Rugby League on Channel 7 Manly failed to inform stakeholders of Seibold sacking – Last night on The Agenda Setters: Rugby League Corey Parker (CP), David Riccio (DR), Aaron Woods (AW) and Luke Keary (LK) discuss the biggest topics of Rugby League, including;
- A live interview with Willie Peters, the inaugural coach of PNG Chiefs
- Sea Eagles sack coach Anthony Seibold, and fail to inform stakeholders before the media
- The Dragon’s fourth straight loss, and what that means for coach Shane Flanagan
- Kyle Flanagan’s horrific head injury
Manly failed to inform stakeholders of Seibold sacking
DR: “There is a complete disconnect from administration down to playing group. The situation of how this unfolded- the left isn’t talking to the right. On Saturday morning myself and colleague Michael Carayannis were hitting the phones tyring to uncover who will lead Manly. We broke the story that Kieran Foran would be the interim head coach. The playing group first learned that via our story. That is highly alarming, as far as communication is concerned. To the point where senior coaching staff, and senior figures in the football department learnt of his appointment moments before the press conference.”
Dragons suffer fourth straight loss – Luke Keary poses Kade Reed as their solution.
AW: “It was a bludger of a game. The Dragons fans… jesus. It was a hard watch. I don’t normally go on social media, but the Dragons fans aren’t too happy. It’s the veteran players who didn’t stand up for them. You’ve got a lot of young kids in that side, but it is the Gutersons, the Valentine Holmes and the Damien Cooks who need to stand up, because the young blokes have to follow them. They have a lot of powerful backs, but have got no pace. We know Kyle Flanagan ig going to be out, he has the HIA protocol, he has to stand for 11 days. He could have a bit longer because it was a big head knock. It’s time for a reshuffle, They need to do something about it. Do they move Gutho into the front line? Because they need a bit of pace at the back – there is no spark at the moment.”
CP: “Creativity has been a big issue for the Dragons. They’ve lost the last 8 striaaght – 4 at the back end of last year, and 4 this season. One line break break in the match yesterday suggests there is a lack of creativity. “
LK: “It’s come the time where Kade Reed has to come in. I know he’s young. Kyle, obviously the unfortunate injury yesterday, I think it means its time for them to take a risk. And yes Kade Reed might not be ready, but I think he may be ready at the start of 2027. You don’t want to go into that season not knowing. I think throw him in now, let him have a go, let him learn what first grade is about – he might only go for 5 games, 10 games, but he’ll know exactly what he’ll need to do in the off season to get going.
Kyle Flanagan’s injury update
CP: “Speaking of injury, there was a really bad collision with Kyle Flanagan in that game yesterday. What can you tell us about that?”
DR: “It was horrible scenes for not only Dragons fans and teammates, but the entire game. It’s not a great look for the NRL. What I can tell you is positive. Kyle is out of hospital, he was discharged at around 1am this morning. He’s back home. He’s be rested and will undergo the NRL’s standard concussion protocols. He won’t play this weekend against the Cowboys, and it is to be determined how long he is out for.
Luke Keary strongly backs the decision to sack Manly coach Anthony Seibold
CP: “Anthony Seibold only after three games has been sacked by the Manly Sea Eagles.”
LK: “A lot of people were surprised, we spoke about it on the panel. I spoke as a fan and a punter, you could just see it wasn’t moving in the right direction. It was his fourth season in charge, he’s had a lot of time to mould that squad. He’s had a lot of time to implement his systems, the culture, the attitudes and the results haven’t been there. In the corporate world and even the sport environment we’re in – when the results aren’t there you move on.”
