The Agenda Setters Rugby League: Justin Holbrook names Dylan Lucas in Knights’ extended squad – Newcastle Knights coach Justin Holbrook expects injured forward Dylan Lucas to be named in the club’s 22 this week. However, he says it remains too early to know whether Lucas will play against the Warriors on Sunday.
Speaking on The Agenda Setters Rugby League, Holbrook said Lucas is only 58 days removed from surgery for a foot fracture. The update puts the forward’s availability firmly in focus ahead of Team List Tuesday. It also sets up a major week for the Knights.
The decision will shape how Newcastle approach their trip to Eden Park. Lucas is an important part of the club’s forward plans. The Knights will monitor his recovery across the week. Holbrook will assess his training before making a final call.
Lucas in the Knights’ extended squad
The Channel 7 panel of Corey Parker, David Riccio, Aaron Woods and Luke Keary were discussing the road to Eden Park when Riccio asked Holbrook if Lucas would be named.
“We’ll name him in our 22,” Holbrook said. “Will he get to the field on Sunday? I’m not too sure yet. A lot of things are going to happen this week for him to get there, but I’ll name him in our 22 and we won’t know until later in the week.”

Selection pressure ahead of Warriors test
Riccio noted that Lucas’s possible return creates a selection call after strong recent performances from Jermaine McEwen and Francis on the right edge. Both players have helped the Knights during Lucas’s absence. Their form gives Holbrook more options for Sunday.
Holbrook praised the club’s depth. He also acknowledged the size of the task against the Warriors. “Both back rowers … have been exceptional for us,” he said. “The whole forward pack stepped up for us. It’s going to be a much bigger challenge this week against the Warriors.”
Holbrook said Lucas must progress through the week before the club makes any final call. A bench role appears the likely outcome if the forward receives clearance. The coach will make that decision later in the week.
