Millions tune in for FIFA World Cup quarter-finals on SBS — SBS says Australians are continuing to watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 in large numbers, with the tournament reaching 17.1 million people to date.
The broadcaster said Norway v England attracted a VOZ Total TV reach of 3.7 million on Sunday, 12 July. The match, which England won 2-1 after extra time, had an average audience of 2.1 million.
According to SBS, it was the biggest audience so far for a match not involving Australia. It was also the fourth biggest match audience of the tournament.
More viewers stayed with SBS for Argentina v Switzerland, which reached 3.19 million and drew an average audience of 1.72 million. SBS said six FIFA World Cup 2026 matches have now reached more than three million viewers.
The Norway v England post-match program also reached more than three million viewers. SBS said it held the top six programs in the VOZ daily ratings for Sunday, 12 July.
Final week schedule
The tournament now moves into its final week. France meets Spain in the first semi-final on Wednesday at 5.00am AEST. England then plays Argentina in the second semi-final on Thursday at 5.00am AEST.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 final airs Monday, 20 July at 5.00am AEST.
