Torrie Lewis: ‘I think our athletics team is so deep right now’ – Australian sprinter Torrie Lewis has spoken to Seven about her Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign and the strength of Australia’s athletics team.
Lewis joined Seven’s Mel McLaughlin and Jason Richardson to discuss her 100m and 200m plans, the relay and her move to the Netherlands as she prepares for a busy Games schedule.
For Australian viewers, Lewis is one of the key athletics names to watch at Glasgow 2026. Her comments also underline the broader depth in the national team across track and field events.
Lewis on choosing the sprint double
Lewis said she had considered cutting back her program before racing in Slovakia. That meeting changed her plans.
I won beating Elaine Thompson, which is, I think, a little bit more of a flex than the time, low key.

She said the result helped confirm that she wanted to contest the 100m and also push for the 200m.
This kind of made the decision for me that I’m definitely doing the 100m and, you know, I really do want to do the 200m as well.

A demanding Glasgow schedule
Lewis said her Games week could be demanding if she progresses through the rounds.
The 100 and 200 double and the relay, there is no day in between. So, Monday is day one and I’ll be running up until Saturday, if all goes well.
Torrie Lewis
She also expects the Glasgow weather to make the finals about race-day execution rather than fast times.
It’s just going to be a competition on the day. Who can get to the line first?
