Peter Bol calls Glasgow 2026 run an absolute privilege after 800m heat – Peter Bol has opened his Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign and spoken to Seven’s Jason Richardson after his 800m heat.
Bol said the first race of a major championship can be the most stressful stage, because athletes must secure their place before the semi-finals and finals.
For Australian viewers, Bol remains one of the key track names in Seven’s Glasgow 2026 coverage. His 800m campaign now becomes part of the nightly athletics story across Seven and 7plus Sport.
Bol on the pressure of a heat
Richardson asked Bol to explain the mindset of a heat after noting that the Australian was physically in strong shape.
Bol said it may not look that way from the outside, but the heat can feel like the scariest part of the championship.
You want to secure that spot into the semifinals and the finals. So glad we ticked that one off.
Peter Bol
When Richardson asked whether that fear came from expectation, Bol said the pressure included self-imposed expectations as well as representing family and country.
You’ve got the country on your back, you’ve got the family on your back. So you just internalise everything, but it disappears as soon as you’re on the track.

Preparing for Glasgow conditions
Bol also addressed the blustery conditions in Glasgow. He said the weather could make the 800m more tactical, but he felt prepared.
He said he had prepared in Melbourne, which helped him adjust to unsettled conditions. However, he also noted that night racing in Glasgow would be cold.
Richardson also praised Bol for embracing a young athlete from Sierra Leone after the race.
It’s an absolute privilege to be able to run here, to represent your country.
Peter Bol
Bol said finishing the race was meaningful for the athlete from Sierra Leone, and that those moments are part of what competitors are chasing at the Games.
