NBA 2026-27 on ESPN: LeBron’s 76ers debut leads opening week – Australian NBA viewers can watch LeBron James’s first game with Philadelphia against the defending champion New York Knicks at 10am AEDT on Wednesday 21 October, the centrepiece of ESPN’s three-game opening-day line-up.
The NBA 2026-27 season opens with unusually strong Australian viewing choices: ESPN and ESPN2 are carried through Disney+, Foxtel, Kayo Sports and Fetch TV. ESPN has supplied start times in Australian Eastern Daylight Time for 12 games across its first eight days, so fans can plan beyond the headline James match-up.
The opening slate also gives Australians a reason to follow the wider season. Josh Giddey features with Chicago on Sunday, while Dyson Daniels and Ben Simmons are among the local players ESPN expects viewers to track in the months ahead.
Wednesday’s opening triple-header
Detroit and Boston begin ESPN’s coverage at 6am AEDT. The Pistons arrive with Cade Cunningham, while Paul George joins Jayson Tatum in a reworked Celtics line-up. The game leads into the Knicks’ title defence against Philadelphia at 10am.
James joins Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown in a new-look 76ers team. Their first test comes against the club that won the 2026 championship, giving the ESPN telecast both a high-profile debut and an immediate measure of Philadelphia’s ambitions.
At 12.30pm AEDT, the San Antonio Spurs meet the Oklahoma City Thunder. Victor Wembanyama and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander headline the final game of ESPN’s opening-day triple-header.
