Australia’s Travis Bazzana set to create history at 2024 MLB Draft on ESPN – Australian hitting sensation Travis Bazzana could create history as the first Australian to be selected in the first round of the MLB Draft.
The emerging star is a favourite to be selected as the number one pick at the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft, as part of a massive week that includes the MLB Home Run Derby and MLB All-Star Game LIVE on ESPN.
The 2024 Major League Baseball Draft is LIVE Monday July 15 at 9am AEST on ESPN2.
The Cleveland Guardians hold the number one pick at the 2024 MLB Draft, the first time they have held the opening selection in the club’s 123-year existence.
Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox complete the top five selections and could yet be potential homes for Australia’s Bazzana.
A strong class of MLB prospects are headlined by the Aussie, along with Georgia’s Charlie Condon and Florida’s Jac Caglianone.
Bazzana shone during his college baseball career with Oregon State, hitting .407 with a .568 on base percentage, striking out on 9.1 per cent of pitches and finishing with a school record 28 home runs in his final season.
The 21-year-old Australian hails from Turramurra in Sydney, and cut hit teeth with the Sydney Blue Sox, before his college journey in Oregon.
Bazzana was crowned the Pac-12 Player of the Year and will become the first Australian to ever be chosen in the first round of the draft, let alone the first overall selection.
Charlie Condon is the main player expected to challenge Bazzana for the first name to be read out on draft night.
He enjoys an elite combination of hitting ability and raw power and is deemed ahead of Jac Caglianone, JJ Wetherholt and Braden Montgomery as the top college hitters in the 2024 draft class.
