Historic ANZAC Day clash headlines massive week on Seven and 7plus Sport – Blockbuster Saturday afternoon footy live from the MCG.
One of the marquee fixtures of the AFL Premiership Season takes centre stage this Saturday, 25 April, when arch rivals Collingwood and Essendon meet on the hallowed turf of the MCG for the iconic ANZAC Day match, live and free from 2.00pm AEST on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
Since it was first introduced in 1995, the ANZAC Day match has delivered an epic series in honour of the courageous ANZACs who served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations – and particularly those who served in Gallipoli.
Seven’s coverage will kick off from 2.00pm AEST on Saturday afternoon with the full pre-game ceremony including the traditional ANZAC Day moment of silence and motorcade, before the match coverage starts from 3.00pm, all live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.
Seven’s coverage will be hosted by Hamish McLachlan, with Brian Taylor and James Brayshaw in play-by-play commentary. Dale Thomas and Nick Riewoldt will provide expert commentary while field commentator Abbey Holmes will report from the boundary alongside 7NEWS Chief Football Reporter, Mitch Cleary.
Playing in the historic match on seven occasions during his time with the Collingwood Football Club, Dale Thomas will provide unrivalled insight into the gravity of the occasion and the players’ experience for viewers across the country.
Before the historic match, Seven’s AFL Round 7 coverage also includes:
• Thursday Night Footy: The Western Bulldogs and the Sydney Swans face off at Marvel Stadium from 7.00pm AEST, live on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
• Friday Night Footy: Richmond and Melbourne meet at the MCG in the annual ANZAC Day Eve match under lights, from 7.00pm AEST live on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
• Sunday Afternoon Footy: Round 7 of the AFL concludes with a blockbuster encounter between two juggernauts as the reigning premier the Brisbane Lions host the Adelaide Crows, live and free from the Gabba from 2.30pm AEST on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
Fans in NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia can also watch Round 7 matches involving teams from their home states on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
Seven’s weekend of footy will also include State league footy action, starting on Saturday with the VFL Round 5 match between the Tasmanian Devils and Carlton streamed nationally on 7plus Sport from 7.05pm AEST.
Viewers can also catch every Round 4 match of the WAFL live and free on 7plus Sport.
Seven’s Head of AFL and Innovation, Gary O’Keeffe, said:
“The ANZAC Day match is one that is close to our hearts, with few greater moments on the football calendar than the pre-game ceremony where Australians young and old pay respect to the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country.
“It is a huge round of football on Seven, including blockbuster matches between some of the biggest contenders in the league across Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Fans can get their footy fix on four consecutive days, live and free across the network.”
Australia’s #1 breakfast television show, Sunrise, will begin its comprehensive coverage from 4.20am on Saturday, 25 April, hosted by Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington live from the dawn service at North Bondi RSL. Emceed by Mark Beretta, this landmark broadcast marks the first time the iconic North Bondi RSL dawn service has been televised live to audiences across the nation.
As the sun rises over the Pacific, Sunrise will also cross live to commemorations around the country and overseas, including Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Gallipoli and Villers-Bretonneux, France.
Throughout the morning, Sunrise will bring Australians closer to the meaning of ANZAC Day through moving conversations with veterans, serving members and families of the fallen, alongside appearances from some of Australia’s most famous names, who will honour service, sacrifice and remembrance within the nation’s military community.
