7AFL heads to Darwin for historic Sir Doug Nicholls Round – Mega fortnight of footy live and free on Seven and 7plus.
Footy fans will be treated to a massive two weekends of the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport, headlined by the marquee Dreamtime blockbuster between traditional rivals Richmond and Essendon next Friday night.
A mainstay of the AFL calendar, the 2025 Sir Doug Nicholls Round will celebrate the theme “Past Legacies, Future Legends”, which highlights three important anniversaries and recognises the enduring impact and future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our game.
The anniversaries celebrated this Sir Doug Nicholls Round include:
- The 10th year the AFL will celebrate the occasion in honour of Pastor Sir Doug Nicholls;
- The 20th anniversary of the Indigenous Team of the Century, and;
- The 30th milestone of the establishment of the Peek Rule (formally known as Rule 30) that marked a significant step in combating racism in Australian sport.
Kicking off in the Top End with tonight’s Gold Coast SUNS v Hawthorn clash at TIO Stadium in Darwin, Seven’s team will broadcast live from the ground at 7.00pm AEST, with the full pre-match cultural ceremony and match coverage broadcast live and free on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
On Friday Night Footy, football’s #1 commentary team heads to the SCG as the Sydney Swans take on Carlton in the annual Marn Grook game, live and free from 7.00pm AEST on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
Wrapping up Seven’s match coverage of the opening week of Sir Doug Nicholls Round, Brisbane faces Melbourne on Sunday afternoon, live from the MCG at 2.30pm AEST.
Before the on-field action kicks off for the second week of matches, The Agenda Setters will be back on Monday and Tuesday night, to dissect all the biggest talking points impacting the game and its players.
On Wednesday night, everyone’s favourite footy show The Front Bar will return at 8.30pm on Seven and 7plus, where resident hosts Andy Maher, Mick Molloy and Sam Pang will be joined by a group of the game’s most iconic Indigenous stars of yesteryear and today including Bobby Hill, Kysaiah Pickett, Winston Abraham and 2025 Sir Doug Nicholls Round honouree, Stephen Michael.
Following The Front Bar, Seven’s Hamish McLachlan sits down with North Melbourne livewire Harry Sheezel for a candid one-on-one interview for Unfiltered from 9.30pm on Seven and 7plus Sport.
Then the Sir Doug Nicholls Round continues next weekend, headlined by the historic Dreamtime at the ‘G match on Friday, 23 May, live from 7.00pm AEST on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
Seven’s Dreamtime team will include 7AFL Expert Commentator and proud Kaurna Ngarrindjeri man, Chad Wingard alongside Abbey Holmes, James Brayshaw, Alister Nicholson, Dale Thomas and Matthew Richardson.
Head of AFL and Sport Innovation, Gary O’Keeffe said:
“There are few moments on the AFL calendar as powerful and important as Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
“The next two weeks go well beyond the game itself. It’s a celebration and reflection of the incredible contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have made to footy and to our nation,” he said.
“With three massive clashes across Round 10, followed by an unmissable second week featuring Dreamtime at the ’G, it’s set to be a truly special fortnight – and you can catch every moment right here live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.”
