7AFL heads to Darwin for historic Sir Doug Nicholls Round – Massive fortnight of footy live and free on Seven
Footy fans will be treated to a massive two weekends of the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round live and free on Seven, headlined by the marquee Dreamtime blockbuster between traditional rivals Richmond and Essendon next Saturday night.
A mainstay of the AFL calendar, the 2024 Sir Doug Nicholls Round will celebrate the theme “Spirit Strong, Game On”, which recognises the resilience and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Kicking off in the Top End with Thursday night’s Gold Coast SUNS v Geelong Cats clash at TIO Stadium in Darwin, Seven’s team will broadcast live from the ground at 7.00pm AEST, with Darwin-born Shaun Burgoyne behind the microphone, alongside Alister Nicholson, Luke Darcy, Joel Selwood and Erin Phillips.
Then, on Friday Night Footy, football’s #1 commentary team will head to the SCG as the ladder-leading Sydney Swans host Carlton in the annual Marn Grook game, from 7.00pm AEST live and free on Channel 7 and 7mate.
The following matches round out Seven’s coverage of the first week of Sir Doug Nicholls Round:
- Saturday, 18 May: Brisbane Lions v Richmond at The Gabba, 7.00pm AEST live on Channel 7 and 7mate
- Sunday, 19 May: Yartapuulti (Port Adelaide) v Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval, 3.00pm AEDT live on Channel 7 and 7mate
Before the on-field action kicks off, everyone’s favourite footy show The Front Bar will return at 9.00pm tonight on Channel 7 and 7plus, where resident hosts Andy Maher, Mick Molloy and Sam Pang will be joined by one of the Northern Territory’s most revered and respected footballers, Michael “Magic” McLean.
Following The Front Bar, footy fans can stay tuned to Seven as co-hosts James Brayshaw, Trent Cotchin, Joel Selwood and Tim Watson deliver their take on the week’s biggest talking points in Talking Footy, alongside 7NEWS Melbourne’s Mitch Cleary.
Trent Cotchin will put Richmond under the microscope this week, off the back of a 91-point loss to the Western Bulldogs in Round 9, while his fellow co-hosts analyse if the Bombers really have what it takes to head deep into September.
Managing Director of Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin said:
“There are few more meaningful moments in the AFL Premiership Season than the annual Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
“The next two weeks is about far more than just the game. It’s a chance to reflect and celebrate the undeniable impact of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players on our great game.
“With four epic contests over four days, all before an unbelievable second week headlined by the Dreamtime at the ‘G, you do not want to miss a moment of the action, right here on Seven, Your Home of Footy,” he said.
