Wednesday Ratings – The Block rules overnights and Total TV

Analysis for Total TV (5 October, 2022) and Overnight (12 October, 2022) ratings.


The Block moved into first place overall last Wednesday in the Total TV 7 day report. With a 31% uplift, Nine had a total audience of 1, 450 000. A Current Affair almost touched the 1 million mark with 998 000 viewers, up 6%. My Life as a Rolling Stone ended with 313 000, up 15%.

Home and Away had the biggest non-news audience for Seven at 943 000, up 21%. There were minor uplifts for Highway Patrol (both repeats up 5%) and Air Crash Investigations, up 6%.

The Real Love Boat Australia saw its numbers rise by 30% to 362 000, which will be somewhat encouraging for 10.

As usual, ABC had a strong Wednesday night with Hard Quiz up 12% to 888 000, Question Everything up 11% to 646 000 and Summer Love up an impressive 34% to 418 000.

Nine Perfect Strangers rose a perfect 100% to 328 000.

Nine News had a win in Brisbane with A Current Affair winning the 7pm slot, just ahead of ABC News. There can be m argument that The Block is a powerhouse with a mid week episode sitting on 752 000. A special ‘Remembering Bali: 20 Years On’ had 245 000 viewers at around 8:40pm. A repeat of the Westgate Bridge Disaster: The Untold Stories had 148 000. Nine News Late was watched by 103 000 viewers.

Seven News and Seven News at 6:30 were the top two programs overall for the night with wins in all markets except Brisbane. Home and Away landed at #10 for the evening with 463 000 viewers. The fantastic Kitchen Nightmares Australia had 459 000 viewers. Extreme Weddings Australia had 168 000 in its new Wednesday slot. Air Crash Investigations had 112 000 and The Latest: Seven News had 86 000 viewers.

Over on 10, The Dog House Australia (in repeat form) was rushed into the schedule and had 231 000, which nearly on par with what The Love Boat did in the slot last week. The Real Love Boat was moved to 8:30pm and got 129 000 viewers with My Life is Murder pushed to 10pm for an audience of 91 000.

One the ABC, 7:30 had an audience of 423 000, then Hard Quiz upped the audience to 471 000. Question Everything was on 338 000, whilst Total TV champ Summer Love had an overnight audience of 236 000.

  • Remembering Bali – 20 Years On was a timeslot winner with People 25-54 across the 5 City Metro and in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide 
  • Remembering Bali – 20 Years On recorded a Live + VOD BVOD Audience of 30,000
  • 9News was a timeslot winner with People 25-54 across the 5 City Metro and in Sydney and Brisbane 
  • A Current Affair won the 7pm timeslot with Total People across the 5 City Metro and in Sydney and Brisbane 
  • Today is the breakfast show of choice with Total People in Brisbane and with People 25-54 in Melbourne and Brisbane
