Analysis for Total TV (24 October, 2022) and Overnight (31 October, 2022) ratings.

TOTAL TV

The Block has moved to the #1 overall position in the Total TV rankings with 1, 565 000 viewers, an uplift of 26%. Earlier, Nine News had a 4% rise for 1, 126 000 viewers, whilst Nine News 6:30 had 1, 185 000, up 4% as well. A Current Affair won its slot 1, 097 000 viewers, up 6^. Under Investigation with Liz Hayes rose 15% for an audience of 582 000. In the afternoon game show race, Hot Seat (5:30pm) moved 4% to 498 000, whilst the 5pm half hour was up 4% to 311 000. Tipping Point does super well for its slot, up 7% to 379 000. Nine’s Afternoon News rose 3% to 349 000.

Seven News (6pm) was #3 overall with 1, 449 000, up 3%, whilst the 6:30pm half hour actually beat it on 1, 486 000, also up 3%. Home and Away continues to perform well in Total TV, this time up 20% to 955 000. Australia’s Got Talent was #12 for the night with an audience of 808 000, up 16%. The US drama 911 continues to be a big winner in the Total TV race, up 50% to 551 000. The game show hour of The Chase Australia (5pm) was up 3% to 490 000, whilst the 5:30pm half hour was up 3% to 769 000, placing it at a very healthy #13. Seven News at 4:30 rose 3% to 326 000.

10 News First was up 2% to 369 000 viewers. The Project 6:30pm had 292 000, up 5%, but the 7pm portion did better in overall audience with 452 000, up 4%. It is fair to say that The Traitors is struggling at 437 000, but it has an uplift if 28% so viewers are seeking out the show after its live airing. Have You Been Paying Attention was up 24% to 947 000, whilst the hilarious Ghosts was on 358 000, up 16%.

ABC News was #9 for the night at 941 000, up 4%, Australian Story was #10 at 931 000, up 14% and 730 was #11 at 880 000, up 5%, demonstrating a very consistent schedule for the ABC. Media Watch was 3 places down at #14 with 637 000 viewers, up 21%, whilst Four Corners was on 571 000, up 11%.

OVERNIGHT RATINGS

Multi-Channels

Winner: 9Gem (9.6%)

Second: 7two (3.9%)

Analysis

Nine News started off the night with 709 000 viewers with a win in the Brisbane market. Nine News at 6:30pm was up on the 6pm half hour with 712 000 with the same market win of Brisbane. A Current Affair won its slot and placed #6 overall for the night at 589 000 viewers. The Block was #3 overall but #1 non news at 903 000. Under Investigation with Liz Hayes had 312 000 viewers. A repeat of Suburban Gangsters had 170 000 viewers.

It was up and down for the Nine multi channels. 9Gem was at a massive 9.6% thanks to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 match attracting 323 000 viewers. However, the new young line-up on 9GO was very poor. We all know that Love Island Australia is massive on digital, however Nine would be disappointed with 33 000 viewers. There were just 2000 viewers in Brisbane. The multi channel attracted just 1.1%

Seven News was #1 overall for the night at 941 000, whilst the 6:30pm half hour was #2 at 916 000. Home and Away was #10 at 445 000, looking again at big increases in Total TV. Australia’s Got Talent had 410 000 viewers to land at #12. 911 had 211 000, which on face value looks poor, however, the show will receive a 50% increase in Total TV next week and is a lot cheaper than what the opposition has in the same slot. S.W.A.T had 130 000 viewers.

The Project 6:30pm at 191 000 viewers but that figure rose to 298 000 at 7pm. The Traitors had 224 000 at 7:30pm, but then Have You Been Paying Attention rose to 431 000. Ghosts had 177 000.

Another consistent night of viewing on the ABC with ABC News on 578 000, 730 on 454 000, Australian Story on 407 000, Four Corners on 338 000 and Media Watch on 378 000. Planet America was on 224 000.
