The 2025 Focus on Ability Red Carpet Awards to be held on November 16 in Chatswood – Get ready for an afternoon of film, flair, and celebration! The 2025 Focus on Ability Short Film Festival Red Carpet Awards will roll out the red carpet on Sunday, November 16, at The Concourse, Chatswood.

This free, not-to-be-missed event will celebrate incredible short films and documentaries that shine a spotlight on the creativity, talent, and achievements of people with disability. From heartwarming stories to powerful perspectives, the Focus on Ability Film Festival continues to inspire audiences across Australia and around the globe.

The evening will feature dynamic performances from MC Wheels and the legendary Rogue Traders (Duo) — ensuring the afternoon is packed with energy, entertainment, and inspiration. This year’s awards are judged by Travis Jeffery, Cinzia Coassin, Nick Hardcastle, Tsu Shan Chambers, David Cameron, Lisa Duff, Yiana Pandelis and Isaac Elliott. Awards presenters for 2025 include Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Ada Nicodemou, James Stewart, Gerard O’Dwyer, Craig Bennett OAM, Madeline Dyer, Isaac Elliott and Ryan Johnson.

Proudly presented by NOVA Employment and major sponsor Australia’s Disability Strategy, this year’s festival attracted 286 finalists from 26 countries, showcasing the remarkable diversity of stories and voices that make this event one of the most unique on the film calendar.

Senator Jenny McAllister, Minister for the NDIS, said:

“Congratulations to all the wonderful filmmakers involved in this year’s Focus on Ability Film Festival.

This event is an excellent opportunity to showcase and celebrate the creative talents of Australians with disability. This recognition is crucial to creating a more inclusive, diverse society.”

Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of film, food, and festivities — and see firsthand how storytelling can change perceptions and celebrate ability in every form.

Willoughby Mayor Tanya Taylor said:

“The Focus on Ability Red Carpet Awards shine a spotlight on stories that inspire, empower, and break down barriers. At Willoughby City Council, we are deeply committed to fostering inclusion, celebrating diversity, and creating opportunities for every member of our community to thrive.

I’m so proud that Willoughby is home to this incredible event, which brings people together in such a powerful way. I can’t wait to celebrate the creativity, courage, and talent of all those involved, and to share in the joy and inspiration that the festival brings to Chatswood and beyond.”

Focus on Ability Ambassador Paula Duncan, said:

“Every year, the Focus on Ability Film Festival reminds us just how powerful storytelling can be. These films don’t just entertain — they move us, challenge perceptions, and open hearts.

I’m continually inspired by the creativity, courage, and determination of our filmmakers. The Red Carpet Awards are a celebration of talent and inclusion — an event that proves when we focus on ability, anything is possible.”
