News24 documentary The Fight for the Right premieres this August – News24 will premiere The Fight for the Right, a new Chris Kenny-hosted special examining shifts in Australian centre-right politics.
The program premieres Tuesday 25 August at 7.00pm AEST on News24.
For TV Central readers, the special continues News24’s push into locally led current affairs programming following its recent platform launch. It also arrives as political documentaries and long-form interview specials remain a key way for news channels to build appointment viewing beyond rolling coverage.
A look at conservative politics
The release says the Liberal Party and the Nationals are facing pressure after election losses, leadership instability and weak polling.
At the same time, One Nation is attracting growing support from voters. News24 says the party’s results in South Australia and Farrer, along with national polling, point to a bigger role in the looming Victorian State Election.
The Fight for the Right explores what the shift could mean for Australian politics and the future of the right-of-centre vote.
Who appears in the special
The special features interviews with One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, Liberal leader Angus Taylor and Nationals leader Matt Canavan.
Kenny also travels to Griffith, the South Australian electorate of Hammond and inner-city Melbourne to speak with voters who have changed political allegiances.
The program looks at the issues driving those shifts and the challenge facing the Coalition as One Nation grows its support.
Chris Kenny on the program
Kenny said meeting voters across the country who have switched to One Nation was “fascinating and illuminating”.
He said the special also tests the plans of Hanson, Taylor and Canavan.
Viewers will be surprised by some of their answers and insights as we probe why the right-of-centre vote has fractured, how the Coalition will survive, and where the rise of One Nation will lead us.
