Liberals in Power on Sky News Australia – In a new two-part political documentary, Sky News Australia presents Liberals in Power, an in-depth investigation into the inner workings of the Liberal Party during a tumultuous nine years of government under the Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison prime ministerships from 2013-2022.
Hosted by Sky News anchor, and former chief of staff to Alexander Downer and Malcolm Turnbull, Chris Kenny, the special will air over two consecutive nights from Monday 13 November at 8pm AEDT on Sky News Australia and will feature fresh revelations from senior political players about the triumph and treachery during this turbulent period of the Liberals in power.
Despite Tony Abbott’s vow that his team would not repeat the turmoil of the Labor Party’s Rudd-Gillard-Rudd revolving governments, the Liberal Party was beset by its own fierce tension and rivalry. Yet, in three terms plagued by unprecedented challenges, significant achievements were made in restoring the integrity of the nation’s borders, securing free trade deals, standing up to China and forging a historic new tripartite defence agreement.
This raw and unfiltered tell-all relies on interviews with some of the key players to share a behind-the-scenes look at the intricacies of the party infighting, revealing new insights into backtracked promises and why members turned on each other.
The documentary journeys through the unimaginable highs and lows of the COVID-19 pandemic, the secret negotiation of the AUKUS military pact, and the bitter Labor Party takedown of the Coalition over its alleged “women problem” that ultimately preceded former Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s election failure, and the end of nine years of Liberal party rule.
