Western Australia unites for new Telethon record – West Australians have again demonstrated their generosity and kindness, with Telethon 2024 raising an astounding $83,264,216 for the state’s sick and vulnerable children.
The theme, Incredible Together, perfectly captured the essence of a united community coming together for a shared purpose, making the 57th Telethon Weekend one for the history books.
This year’s Little Telethon Stars—Florence Shanks (4), Nate Fearnall (8), Charlee Hosking (9), and Nazeem Fahmi (8) – captivated WA with their courage, resilience, and inspiring attitude of wanting to help others in need of support and hope. Becoming fast friends, this fearless foursome reminded everyone of the Telethon mission to build a better and brighter future for WA children in need.
Telethon Chair Richard Goyder AO reflected on the significance of this year’s achievement and the enduring magic of a community-led charity fundraising effort.
“The magic of Telethon is that everybody across our state does what they can over the weekend as they know it is for the greater good and that greater good is helping kids, something that brings everybody together,”
– Mr Goyder said.
“Whether through generosity and donations, community performances, attendance at the family festival, or simply tuning in to the Channel 7 broadcast, every individual contributed to something greater than themselves over this year’s Telethon Weekend.”
“The money raised this year will enable Telethon to fund Perth Children’s Hospital and a large number of children’s charities, community organisations and other beneficiaries that deliver life-changing programs and services.
Telethon General Manager Mark McCrory said the fundraising efforts of the community was inspiring, showcasing the true spirit of Telethon where passionate and committed West Australians proved once again that the spirit of giving in Western Australia was alive and thriving.
Since its inception in 1968, Telethon has now raised over $688 million thanks to the generosity of the Western Australian community and this year’s result is another reminder that WA is the giving state.
