Better Homes and Gardens on Channel 7 and 7plus S30E37 – storyline rundown for episode 37, 2024, screening at 7.00pm on Friday 11 October on 7 and 7plus.

JOHANNA – TURNING HOUSES INTO HOMES

For people in crisis, it’s essential to get access to safe and secure housing but furnishing that new home can be an expense they can’t afford. One charity, ReLove, is hoping to ease this burden by rescuing furniture and whitegoods from corporates, hotels and retail stores and delivering them directly to people who need a helping hand, for free. Johanna meets the founders at the ReLove Free Store, a place where families can pick from a warehouse full of different styles of furniture and home fittings. ReLove isn’t just restoring a sense of dignity to these families, they’re also saving thousands of tonnes of furniture from going to landfill.

DR HARRY – HERD FOR HIRE

It took thousands of workers to build Sydney’s largest transport project, but there was also a special team who also worked very hard… on their lunch break. Dr Harry meets a special team of goats who ate weeds and unwanted vegetation to clear hard to reach hills and gullies. They’re not kidding around either, with no poisons, chemicals or heavy machinery needed, goats are not only efficient, but good for the environment too.

ADAM + CHARLIE – FIRST IMPRESSIONS

It’s the last thing you see when you leave and the first thing you see when you come home, so you want the front of your house to make a great impression. Adam and Charlie have found a home whose facia is in need of a bit of love. From adding some colour and vibrancy to the garden, to building a new pergola, the projects Adam and Charlie undertake are not only great ideas, but also achievable at your place. Once they’re done, this traditional red-brick home will have a little bit of a cottage look to it.

COLIN – SPICED MISO EGGPLANT

Even if you’re a devout meat-lover, like Colin, it can be good to eat a little less meat sometimes. His Spiced Miso Eggplant is so good, your meat-free Monay might turn into meat-free Tuesday and Wednesday as well. The miso adds a little salty kick that nicely complements the other ingredients in the sauce, which is not only delicious, but easy to cook as well.

CLARISSA – STIR FRY BEEF & BLACK BEAN SAUCE

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t tried the Chinese dish, Beef and black bean sauce, but you won’t have tried Clarissa’s version of this classic meal. Sure, you can buy it in a jar but once you learn the very simple recipe to making your own sauce you won’t be going back to the jar ever again. The best part is the black bean sauce can be refrigerated for future use, which is handy because with lots of flavour and fresh ingredients, this will become one of your regulars. It’s so good, you won’t want to spend the money on take away ever again!

JULIET – THROW IT, SPIN IT AND GET CREATIVE WITH CLAY

Juliet checks out the hot new spin class, but it’s not the cycling variety. She’s going to a pottery class to try her hand at making a pot or a bowl. Ceramics can have a tremendous benefit on your physical and mental health, giving you a chance to stop, reconnect and focus as you sculpt the clay with a community of like-minded people. Join Juliet as she starts with a lump of clay and walks away with a hand-made masterpiece.

GRAHAM – SPRING WEEKEND IN THE GARDEN

Spring is a glorious time of year when plants and flowers come alive with colour and fragrance. It’s the perfect time to get out into the garden, and no one is more excited to get into the garden than Graham. From splitting up existing overgrown plants, creating lovely hanging basket displays or multiplying your dahlias, Graham will show you how easy it is to add a splash of colour to your home.

PETE – A VIEW OF WEST END

Inner-city living used to be considered less than ideal, but what was once considered undesirable has now become highly desirable. West End in Brisbane is just such a place. It’s seeing a boom in a well-rounded lifestyle that a lot of young families are choosing to take up. After a short City Cat ferry ride from the CBD, Pete takes a sticky-beak into a traditional weatherboard “Queenslander” to get an idea of the type of housing the suburb offers. While there are many links to the past, the suburb has really modernised, with many of Brisbane’s best cafés and restaurants, making this an ideal place for a contemporary lifestyle.
