Tonight | What We Do in the Shadows on SBS 2: vampires plot a New World takeover – Four vampires sharing a Staten Island home are reminded of their old mission to dominate the New World. SBS 2 opens What We Do in the Shadows with the first two episodes together. First comes a bloodfeast. Then the vampires turn to local politics. It airs Friday 23 October 2026 at 8:30pm and 9:05pm on SBS 2, with streaming on SBS On Demand.
The documentary-style comedy takes the premise of the film by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi into a shared house. Yet their long history does little to help them manage daily life in modern New York.
Episode one: prepare the bloodfeast
An unexpected visit from the vampires’ ancient master revives the assignment they were given when they arrived in New York more than a century ago: complete domination. So they plan a lavish bloodfeast in his honour. As a result, the first episode exposes the gap between their enormous ambitions and their life together.
Episode two: local politics
Next, the vampires try to take control of the New World through Staten Island politics. The choice is a suitably modest starting point for such a sweeping goal. Together, the episodes follow the household as it searches for a workable strategy. The mock-documentary style keeps their grand mission close to everyday life.
