Tonight | The Jury: Skeleton in the Garden on SBS: a buried body tests reasonable doubt – A new jury considers an Australian manslaughter case in which remains were found in a former backyard a decade after a woman vanished. The Jury: Skeleton in the Garden airs Monday 5 October 2026 at 7.30pm on SBS and SBS On Demand.
The question is not just whether the case seems suspicious. Twelve everyday Australians must decide whether the evidence reaches the legal threshold for a conviction.
A real trial restaged
Professional actors recreate proceedings from an actual Australian trial word for word using the original court transcripts. The jury has not seen the case before and must weigh the evidence as it is presented.
There is no confirmed time, place, cause or motive of death. The programme asks whether a secret burial proves the defendant’s guilt or whether other explanations remain possible.
The jury must reach a verdict of guilty or not proven beyond reasonable doubt. After that decision, a final revelation challenges the relationship between legal justice and factual truth. The five-part series begins Monday, continues Tuesday and Wednesday, then returns the following week for its final two parts.
The Jury: Skeleton in the Garden Episode 1 premiere airs Monday 5 October 2026 at 7.30pm on SBS and SBS On Demand.
