The three-part series connects landscape with the food and traditions of the people who live there. It airs Tuesday 20 October 2026 at 8:40pm on SBS, with streaming on SBS On Demand.
Kelly has been fascinated by Norse stories since childhood. This first episode shifts her attention from those tales to contemporary life on a coast shaped by the sea, mountains and changing seasons.
Into the fjords
Kelly sets out from Alesund and travels through the fjords, visiting remote communities and the Sunnmore Alps. Along the way, she learns about friluftsliv, the Norwegian idea of spending time outdoors and staying connected to nature. The journey gives her a closer look at how geography influences everyday routines.
History and food in Trondheim
In Trondheim, Kelly explores the city’s Viking history before turning to its present-day food culture. She cooks with foraged ingredients and joins local mussel harvesters to learn about the seafood produced along the coast. The episode starts a voyage that will take her farther north, with the Northern Lights still part of her long-held ambition for the trip.
