The six-part series, created by acclaimed playwright David Ireland, follows a man searching for a fresh start, only to discover that some secrets are impossible to escape.
A move to the country takes a sinister turn
Lincoln stars as John, a stay-at-home father grappling with a mounting midlife crisis.
After failing to step in during a violent incident at a playground, John’s confidence and sense of identity begin to unravel. Desperate for change, he uproots his family from London and relocates them to the seemingly idyllic Scottish village of Coldwater.
But what initially appears to be the perfect escape soon reveals a much darker side.
An unsettling new friendship
Shortly after arriving in Coldwater, John strikes up a friendship with his neighbour Tommy, played by Trainspotting star Ewan Bremner.
Charismatic and self-assured, Tommy quickly becomes an influential figure in John’s life. While John admires Tommy’s confidence, he is also disturbed by aspects of his behaviour.
As their bond deepens, John begins to experience a renewed sense of purpose. However, a series of increasingly unsettling events forces him to question whether he truly knows the man living next door.
The deeper John digs, the more he suspects Tommy may be hiding horrifying secrets.
What happens in Episode One?
Tonight’s premiere episode introduces viewers to John’s growing dissatisfaction with his life before a single moment changes everything.
Following his failure to intervene in a violent confrontation, John makes the life-altering decision to move his family to Coldwater in search of a new beginning.
What he finds there, however, may prove far more dangerous than the life he left behind.
A fresh role for Andrew Lincoln
Best known globally for his portrayal of Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead, Lincoln takes on a very different character in Coldwater, blending drama, suspense and dark humour.
With David Ireland’s distinctive voice guiding the series, Coldwater promises an intriguing mix of psychological tension and biting comedy.
Coldwater premieres tonight at 9.20pm on SBS and SBS On Demand.
