Tonight | The Death Coast on SBS Viceland: Beyond the Breakers Searches for Lost Treasure – The Death Coast SBS Viceland heads into dangerous waters tonight as shipwreck hunter Jeff Mackinnon continues the search for long-lost treasure.
The Death Coast is an area of rough sea in the North Atlantic. Across the centuries, it has claimed more than 6,000 vessels.
Many sailors braved these waters for trade, war and plunder. Now, gold and priceless objects from their wrecked ships lie scattered across the ocean floor.
Salvaging has been banned in the area for the past decade. However, after a long battle, Jeff Mackinnon has won exclusive rights to dive.
That gives Jeff and his team a narrow window. They have just 12 weeks to search the wrecks before the turbulent waters of the Death Coast make diving impossible.
Tonight’s episode is titled Beyond The Breakers.
Following the trail of a cache of precious gemstones, Jeff and the team move further beyond the breakers. Their search leads them toward The Neptune.
With stormy weather closing in, the pressure rises. However, a puzzling find may take the team one step closer to a privateer’s long-lost treasure.
The appeal of The Death Coast comes from its mix of danger, history and discovery. The sea has hidden these stories for centuries, and each dive may bring the team closer to solving another mystery.
Tonight’s episode places the team against time, weather and the risks of the North Atlantic.
For viewers who enjoy shipwreck stories, treasure hunts and maritime history, The Death Coast offers a tense Sunday night documentary option.
The Death Coast airs Sunday 28 June at 9.00pm on SBS Viceland. It will also be available to stream free on SBS On Demand.
