Matt Preston’s Plating Locally – Matt Preston will travel through some of Australia and New Zealand’s most remarkable food regions in a new eight-part SBS Food series premiering Wednesday, 12 August at 8.30pm on SBS Food and SBS On Demand.

The series follows the acclaimed food writer and broadcaster as he leaves the city behind to meet the farmers, fishers, foragers, winemakers and artisans whose work begins long before food reaches the plate.

From abalone farmed on living ocean reefs in Western Australia’s Margaret River to the old vineyards of the Barossa, the coastline of Kangaroo Island, Tasmania’s Tamar Valley and New Zealand’s Marlborough region, each episode connects food to place and the people who produce it.

Matt Preston on local food stories

For me, the best food stories don’t begin in a restaurant, they begin in a paddock, on a fishing boat, in a vineyard or with someone who’s spent a lifetime perfecting their craft.

Preston says the series gave him the chance to visit spectacular parts of Australia and New Zealand while meeting producers whose passion starts long before any ingredient reaches the plate.
