Hollywood Crime Story on SBS begins a three-part series about the uneasy relationship between organised crime and the American movie business.
The opening episode follows figures including Johnny Roselli, Bugsy Siegel and Mickey Cohen as the underworld looked for influence in Hollywood. The programme traces the deals, ambition and criminal networks around the industry.
Hollywood has long produced stories about mobsters; this documentary turns the lens on the real-world figures who wanted a stake in the business itself. The series places familiar film history alongside the people who operated in its shadows.
It is a compelling entry point to a subject where entertainment, money and power repeatedly collided.
Hollywood Crime Story: The Mob Takes Over The Movies premieres Thursday 17 September at 7.35pm on SBS and SBS On Demand.
