Tonight | Coldwater on SBS and SBS On Demand: John faces the truth in a dark new episode – Coldwater continues on SBS with another tense chapter in the blackly comic thriller from playwright David Ireland.
Andrew Lincoln stars as John, a middle-aged stay-at-home dad whose quiet rage has pushed him toward a major life change. After a violent playground confrontation forces his identity crisis into the open, John moves his family to the small Scottish village of Coldwater.
However, the move does not bring the peace he expects.
A fresh start turns darker
Coldwater begins as John searches for distance from London and the life that no longer fits him. At first, the rural setting offers him a sense of escape. It also gives him space to imagine a different version of himself.
Soon after arriving, John meets his next-door neighbour Tommy, played by Ewan Bremner. Tommy is charming, confident and quick to make John feel welcome. As their friendship grows, John starts to feel a new sense of purpose.

The latest episode brings more pressure into John’s already fragile world. Fiona reconsiders her marriage to him as unsettling truths come to light. Meanwhile, John prepares himself for the consequences of his actions.
Then news arrives of another death.
That development pushes the story into darker territory. It also raises fresh questions about Tommy, who appears to be hiding horrifying secrets. As a result, John must decide how much he really knows about the man who has entered his life so quickly.
