Australia v Argentina Tomorrow Morning from 5.00AM (AEDT) Live and Free on SBS & SBS on Demand
As the final group stage matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ were played overnight, SBS can now confirm full broadcast schedule for the Round of 16 knockout phase of competition, including Australia, for only the second time ever, who will meet Argentina tomorrow, Sunday December 4, at 6.00am AEDT, with pre-show coverage from 5.00am.
It has been a tournament of upsets so far, a trend the Socceroos will look to continue as they face the might of Argentina and one of the greatest-ever footballers in Lionel Messi. Marking the nations’ eighth match against each other and first in over 15 years, it will be a landmark moment on the Australian sporting landscape as the Socceroos seek to reach the quarter-finals at the World Cup for the first time ever in the men’s national team history.
France became the first country to qualify from the group stages, breaking the ‘Champion’s Curse’ with a 2-1 victory over Denmark. Qatar made history as the first World Cup host nation to lose all three matches and only the second ever to fail to qualify.
Finishing top of their groups and qualifying for the Round of 16 are:
Netherlands, Senegal (Group A), England, USA (Group B), Argentina, Poland (Group C), France, Australia (Group D), Japan, Spain (Group E), Morocco, Croatia (Group F), Brazil, Switzerland (Group G), Portugal and South Korea (Group H)
Richard Bayliss and Niav Owens will continue to host the broadcasts each day, sharing their insights and analysis alongside Mark Bosnich, Craig Foster, Sarah Walsh and Thomas Sorensen.
Martin Tyler will continue to provide world-exclusive match commentary on the ground and David Basheer and Luke Wilkshire will be calling the Argentina v Australian game on Sunday.
