Recap | MKR on Channel 7 and 7plus (17 September) – Lovebirds deliver sweet and sour Instant Restaurant. How do you like them apples?
Tonight on MKR, Hannah and Lawrence proved the course of love doesn’t always run smoothly in the kitchen scoring 68 out of 110.
The loved-up couple set their sights on the top spot, but before too long the honeymoon was over, landing them in the middle of the leaderboard.
Despite manifesting a high score of 88 and inspiring each other with motivational quotes, they served an underwhelming entrée of Croquettes de Fromage with Ginger Brussel sprouts and Jamon and Jalapeno Aioli.
The star of the night was a strong main dish of Lamb Rump with Crispy Onion Rings, Carrot puree and Carrot-Top Salsa, but their dessert – Baked Apples with Brandy Caramel and Cinnamon Ice cream – burst the team’s love bubble.
From episode one, Lawrence – who has only been cooking for about 18 months – made his intentions clear: he will propose to Hannah if they win MKR.
An emotional Lawrence shared the story behind their Instant Restaurant, Missing Piece, which was a tribute to Lawrence’s late mum who passed away when he was two. He always felt something was missing at the table until he met Hannah, declaring: “You are the missing piece to my puzzle.”
Mike shocked his fellow diners when he questioned if Lawrence’s motivation was to pull on the emotional heartstrings of the teams and influence their scoring.
Hannah’s “chaos and freedom” against Lawrence’s “order and stability” ensured arguments and tension in the kitchen.
Their entrée of croquettes got mixed reviews as Colin believed they tried to do too much. Hannah and Lawrence returned to the kitchen, redeeming themselves with a “top notch” main dish scoring a nine from Manu and eight from Colin.
Lawrence’s technical method of sous vide (vacuum-sealing the lamb and cooking it in a temperature-controlled water bath) impressed as Manu asked: “How are you able to cook an amazing piece of lamb like this?”
Despite the impressive presentation, dessert sent their scores back downhill after Hannah’s apples were not baked enough and the no-churn ice-cream over froze.
