Recap | Married at First Sight Season 13 Episode 9 – It’s couch time.

The MAFS couples are about to face the experts at the first Commitment Ceremony, but before bad behaviour is called out and we get our first “leave” of the season, there is one very, very messy task to unpack.

MAFS: After The Dinner Party starts Wednesday February 18 only on Stan.

As if you’ve forgotten our new Revelations Week favourite, Red Flag, Green Flag.

For the women, the day out turned out to be the exact opposite of what they needed, as insults and eye-rolls made more of an impact than any genuine advice about their marriages.

And from the men’s afternoon, everyone is still shell-shocked by Steve‘s long, long list of grievances about Rebecca.

Well, everyone except Rebecca herself, as when Steve returns to their apartment he conveniently forgets to tell her about any of it.

Not sure that’s going to fly in front of the whole group … let’s go!

Mel and Luke

Has anyone needed the wise counsel of John Aiken‘s eyebrows, Mel Schilling‘s head tilt and Alessandra Rampolla‘s shoulder pads more than these two?

That huge gap between them suggests no. (Nine)

Mel recounts Luke being late to their wedding day, which she is still not over.

The experts simply stare in disbelief. Truly. The silence is just a beat too long, I wonder if I’ve accidentally hit pause.

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 9PM MAFS 2026 experts
I think there’s been a glitch. (Nine)

Once everyone starts talking again, Mel says she didn’t feel a spark and admits, again, she was disappointed her husband wasn’t Bradley Cooper.

“I really did want my fairytale,” she says.

WATCH: John Aiken scorns bride Mel with brutal reality check – before one move blindsides everyone

Cue our first John couch zinger of the year: “You need a wake-up call,” he tells her. Her closed-mindedness is the complete opposite of what the experiment is about.

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 MAFS 2026: John Aiken
No one does disappointment quite like John. (Nine)

Luke is emotional explaining how Mel’s treatment over the past couple of weeks has knocked his confidence and hurt his feelings.

Mel says she is embarrassed by the way she’s acted and would do it differently if she had another chance …

Which, wow, she does.

Luke surprises everyone with his stay, which he wrote in hope of the experts getting through to her.

She’s written leave but with the experts’ words ringing in her ears, she’s happy to be able to try and make things right.

Tonight | The Reckoning: Inside the Epstein Files on Channel 9 to air 2 March

Gia and Scott

Gia and Scott arrive on the couch with their legs in an oddly intertwined pretzel situation and many stories of their sexcapades.

There really isn’t anything else to say except for them to reveal their decisions to stay at the same time.

Next week is Intimacy Week and they’re obviously hoping for top marks.

Bec and Danny

Fresh off delivering some not-so-happy expressions over Gia and Scott’s chemistry, Bec and Danny fill the experts in on their roller coaster time so far.

After a tough honeymoon, this week has been “transformative” and they reckon they’ve come a long way.

Gia returns serve with her own judgey faces from the back of the room.

Mel encourages Danny to get a little more vulnerable, which he’ll have a chance to do as they both write stay.

As they return to the group, Bec makes a quip that she and Danny aren’t fake and surprise, surprise! Gia doesn’t love that.

“I can’t stand her,” she mutters.

Rachel and Steven

Rachel laughs her way to her and Steven’s first couch session. How very out of character.

They share how much they can relate to one another, from their goofiness to similar experiences with body image.

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 MAFS 2026: Rachel and Steven
Cuties!!! (Nine)

Mel asks a giggling Rachel how she feels about her husband, although I think it’s prettyyyy clear.

“I really like Steven, and I think you’re really handsome and you are amazing that way that you are, I will tell you every freaking day if I have to,” she tells him.

He returns the sweetness, they each reveal their stays and STOP IT I AM OBSESSED WITH THEM.

Rebecca and Steve

“Very happy, nothing wrong with the wedding day, connection, everything … we’re very solid and comfortable,” Steve begins.

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 MAFS 2026: David, Luke, Steven
I like that they’re all making slight variations of the same face. (Nine)

“We’re all good,” he reckons, despite sharing approximately 4000 reasons they’re not with the men during Red Flag, Green Flag.

After telling Steve, politely, to shhhhhh, Alessandra asks Rebecca if she agrees.

She admits Steve has done nothing to make her feel desired and she’s scared he’s placed her in the friend zone.

“That’s my biggest fear, being rejected,” she cries.

Steve says he’s going as fast as he can and is open to progressing things romantically, while the rest of the group watch on with their heads in their hands.

Brook and Chris

Chris has talked a lot of shit about the experts but now he has to eat his words in front of them.

”I was very pessimistic yes, but I’ve been proven wrong,” he admits.

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 9PM MAFS 2026 experts
They bloody love that. (Nine)

Despite how stoked he is, Brook explains how Chris’ audition tape turned her off.

Chris reckons his footy background made him say all those horrible things. It’s so absurd that Rachel’s eye starts twitching.

“I’m disappointed in myself. Being with Brook now, the person that I’ve been the last two weeks, it’s a dramatic change,” he says.

EXCLUSIVE: MAFS Dinner Party spin-off will see ‘two big personalities’ reunite

Chris will have more chances to show he now knows women are fully rounded human beings, as he and Brook both choose to stick around for another week.

Julia and Grayson

Despite an instant spark, it’s important to Julia that they take things slow and build a friendship first.

Grayson’s cool with that but doesn’t want to get “stuck” in that space.

Julia says they’re both still figuring each other out, but Grayson disagrees: “All the issues and all the conversations we’ve been having are purely about you, Jules”.

Oof. Didn’t see that coming.

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 9PM MAFS 2026 Julia
Neither did she. (Nine)

He thinks he’s been making way more effort than she has and this is news to her, so they’ve got a lot to chat through in the week to come!

Alissa and David

“Prepare yourself to be here for two hours,” Brook whispers to Gia as Alissa and David get comfy.

Oh no, here we go again.

David and Alissa are all smiles as they share just how on the same page they are, while the snarky comments continue behind them.

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 9PM MAFS 2026 Brook and Gia
To be fair, I would buy shampoo from Alissa. Have you SEEN how shiny her hair is? (Nine)

It’s an easy double stay from Alissa and David, who will be sticking around for another week of building their relationship and annoying Brook and Gia simply by existing!

Go them!

Stella and Filip

After having the authenticity of their relationship questioned by Brook and Gia at the Red Flag, Green Flag task, Stella’s feeling protective of her (real) connection with Filip.

The experts immediately clock just how comfortable they seem with each other and Stella agrees, but …

“I feel like not everyone likes your happiness,” she explains.

John asks who in the group is questioning how genuine Stella and Filip are so Brook and Gia chime in.

Being brought into it has Brook “fricking fuming”.

“No one’s saying we’re not happy for you,” she argues, telling Stella to stop “playing the victim”.

Julia wonders if Stella is simply pointing out the “mean girl energy”, which Brook and Gia explain is exactly what’s coming back to them too.

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 9PM MAFS 2026 Chris and Brook
Chris is having a fun night. (Nine)

Alissa raises her hand to say she was also called fake, so Gia snaps at her to shut her hair-selling voice up.

Leave it to John to find a silver lining in the chaos: he points out Filip’s had Stella’s back during it all.

Oh yeah, I’d forgotten amongst all the yelling and infomercial jabs that this was actually their couch time.

In shocking news, these potential soulmates are staying!

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 9PM MAFS 2026 Stella and Filip
Duh! (Nine)

That’s everyone, but we are not done.

Well, more specifically, Brook is not done.

But the experts really want to go to bed, so John requests she continues this feud tomorrow when they don’t have to be there.

As the night ends, Stella attempts to clear things up but Brook doesn’t want to hear it.

While Stella cries, Brook storms down the hallways with a rather confuzzled Chris behind her.

“I never want to see that girl again. Don’t put me in a room with her,” she says.

EMBARGO 15/2/2026 9PM MAFS 2026 Brook
How good that you’re both in the experiment together! (Nine)

Isn’t that a fun little demand to make right in time for Alessandra’s intimacy workshops!?

Hopefully, things get spicy in a very different way tomorrow night – it’s time for Intimacy Week!

Married At First Sight continues Sunday at 7pm and Monday to Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
