Footy Classified on Channel 9: Eddie McGuire’s Tuesday edition axed for 2027 — Nine has confirmed that the Tuesday edition of Footy Classified, hosted by Eddie McGuire, will not return next year. However, the Monday edition of the AFL panel show will continue into a 21st season.

A Nine spokesperson confirmed the decision in a statement to Mediaweek.

For Channel 9 viewers, the change means one less weeknight footy show during the 2027 AFL season. Monday’s Footy Classified remains on air, while Footy Furnace also stays in Nine’s line-up.

According to the statement, Nine’s AFL coverage will continue next year with The Sunday Footy Show and the Monday edition of Footy Classified. In addition, Footy Furnace and Players return, and Nine will again support the My Room Telethon.

Sam McClure hosts the Monday edition. He is joined by panellists Matthew Lloyd, Jimmy Bartel and Damian Barrett.

Earlier reports, including from Code Sports, said Nine would expand Footy Furnace as it shifts more focus to digital platforms. Nine’s statement did not confirm that expansion.

How the Tuesday edition began

Footy Classified launched on Nine in April 2007. Its original panel included Caroline Wilson, Craig Hutchison and Garry Lyon. McGuire was Nine’s chief executive when the program was commissioned.

In 2020, McGuire began hosting a second weekly edition, which first aired on Wednesdays. Two years ago, it moved to Tuesdays to avoid going head-to-head with Channel 7’s The Front Bar.

James Hird also joined McGuire on the Tuesday panel. Hird returned to television through Footy Furnace, the late-night review show.

What happens to McGuire’s shows

McGuire’s production company, JAM TV, makes both Footy Classified and Footy Furnace. As a result, both programs remain part of Nine’s football coverage, even without the Tuesday edition.

McGuire has not publicly commented on the decision. Nine has also not said what will replace the program in its Tuesday night schedule.
