Portrait Artist of the Year continues tonight on ABC as nine artists compete for one place in the semi-final.
Each artist paints one of three sitters: endurance runner Nedd Brockmann, pianist Andrea Lam and comedian Josh Thomas. As the conversations unfold, the portraits aim to capture personality as well as appearance.
The series turns the studio contest into something more intimate than a conventional competition. The sitters’ stories shape the work on the canvas, while the artists face the pressure of a single place in the semi-final.
Portrait Artist of the Year airs Sunday 13 September at 7.30pm on ABC and ABC iview.
